Welcome to my new (and hopefully improved) web site! While it's still a work in progress we're getting there.
What's new:
I'm currently accepting new students. Head on over to the lessons page for more information or to contact.
April is Jazz Appreciation Month. Join me at the Albany Musicians 4th Annual Jazz Gala Celebration on Sunday April 27, 2008 at the Best Western Albany Airport Inn, 200 Wolf Rd. in Colonie. I'll be performing with organist Michael Lamkin and drummer Cliff Brucker from 6 to 7 PM. The gala runs from 2 to 9 PM a features continuous live jazz. Of course food and drink will be available. Did I mention that admission is free?
Upcoming....
Performances with both the John Blood Band and Mike Wicks Ensemble.
I'll be playing guitar as part of the production of Man of La Mancha at Hubbard Hall in Cambridge, NY from May 15 - June 1, 2008.
I'll be appearing with the great Billy and the Barflies on Friday June 27, 2008 as the series of swing dances in the Malta, NY area continues. This band features some the region's best horn players in addition to a kick-a** rhythm section. If you like great swing, nouveau swing, r'n'b, and blues this is a must be there event.
Look for the Sam Farkas Jazz Machine to be part of this summer's great lineup for Jazz On Jay In Schenectady. We'll be appearing on Thursday July 31, 2008, from 12:00 - 1:30 PM.
Bop School Jazz Masterclass will be beginning soon. Several years ago after meeting many fans and students who were asking where they could go to sit in or find other like minded musicians to play with I decided to create a solution for them. Bop School Jazz Masterclass is an opportunity to get together and play in a weekly session under my guidance. These sessions are not so much instruction in jazz improvisation but rather carefully directed opportunities to explore the dynamics of a 'real world' jazz performance in a fun, no-pressure ensemble setting. This is a great chance to get together and play and network with other musicians who love to play jazz but might not be interested in pursuing it as a professional career or who may feel they're not quite ready to take the plunge into a music career. The class is open to any instrumentalists who are proficient of their instrument and have good basic understanding of the language and techniques of jazz and improvisation. Age is no barrier! Past class participants have ranged in age from 16 to 65. Everybody leaves their egos and insecuruities at the door and has a great time! Sessions typically run 8 or 10 weeks.
